Tasting Notes on Stormy Weather by Eden
Despite the fact that it is a 2019 vintage, Stormy Weather by Eden is an impressively lively and vibrant bottle. Eden has crafted a wonderful product with some of the most traditional bittersharp cider apple varieties (Tremletts Bitter, Somerset Redstreak, Stoke Red, Golden Russet and Roxbury Russet) pressed at harvest, pitched yeast fermented, aged in stainless steel barrels, and finally bottle conditioned. The result is a booming fruity cider to the nose that retains a vibrant acidity able to pair wonderfully with intensely rich dishes designed for a dark winter.

One might think that a cider called “Stormy Weather” is surely not good for a sunny day in the garden, yet, this cider was amazing for my first barbecue of the season. The strong fruity nose paired perfectly with the warm sun, while the crisp acidity cut through the grease of grilled cheese burgers, in an unexpected but superb combination.
Notes from the producer
Electricity is in the air each Fall as the harvest comes in and we test and taste fruit to see what is in store for our creative process. This sparkling cider blends the thunder of tannic bittersharp varieties with the lightning of sweet russet to create a perfect storm of flavor. It evokes the jagged complexity of pouring rain on pavement, singed air, and wet wool. Pair it with black bean soup, grilled sausages, or a mushroom tart. Or just curl up with your favourite blanket and a fantasy novel.
